These drawbacks, and the fact that gold is a precious metal that is not easily recyclable, have prevented the wider adoption of gold catalysts by synthetic chemists. Our interest in gold catalysis led us to a fundamental study of ligand and promoters. In this presentation, we will show how our recent advances in the rational design of ligands and additives have helped us to develop gold catalyzed reactions with increased turnover numbers and environmentally friendlier conditions.
