The Federal University of Santa Maria was the first federal university to be established outside of a Brazilian capital. This marked an important milestone in the process of decentralizing public higher education in Brazil and contributed to the state of Rio Grande do Sul becoming the first federative state to host two federal universities. In addition to the main campus in Santa Maria,\u00a0UFSM\u00a0maintains three satellite campuses:\u00a0one in Frederico Westphalen, one in Palmeira das\u00a0<\/span>Miss\u00f5es<\/span>, and another in Cachoeira do Sul.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The<\/span> university\u2019s<\/span> current structure<\/span> encompasses <\/span>twelve <\/span>University Units: <\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0Arts and Languages Center<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, Education Center<\/strong><\/a>, <\/span>Exact and Natural Sciences Center<\/strong><\/a>, Ip\u00ea<\/span> Amarelo<\/span>\u00a0Early Childhood School<\/strong><\/a>, Multidisciplinary Space of UFSM in Silveira Martins<\/strong><\/a>, Physical Education and Sports Center<\/strong><\/a>, <\/span>Polytechnic School<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, Technical Industrial School of Santa Maria<\/a><\/strong>, and the Technology Center.<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>

UFSM <\/span>provides<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>undergraduate <\/span>courses<\/span> and <\/span>degrees,<\/span> comprising<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>technology<\/span>-focused undergraduate<\/span>, licentiate<\/span>, and <\/span>bachelor\u2019s degree<\/span> programs<\/span>. <\/span>Furthermore<\/span>,<\/span> the institution offers graduate programs, <\/span>including<\/span>\u00a0doctoral<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0master\u2019s<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>specialization<\/span>, and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>postdoctoral <\/span>programs<\/span>. <\/span>In the<\/span> realm of<\/span> basic and technic<\/span>al<\/span> education,<\/span> UFSM provides<\/span> technical courses, c<\/span>ourses integrated <\/span>with<\/span> high school,<\/span>\u00a0regular high school<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span>\u00a0early<\/span> childhood education <\/span>programs<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>
