O documento ser\u00e1 encaminhado ao Minist\u00e9rio das Rela\u00e7\u00f5es Exteriores do Brasil, respons\u00e1vel por remeter a carta para a Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas para a Educa\u00e7\u00e3o, a Ci\u00eancia e a Cultura (UNESCO). O evento, que seguiu todos os protocolos de sa\u00fade para evitar a prolifera\u00e7\u00e3o da Covid-19, contou com a presen\u00e7a da Pr\u00f3-Reitoria de Extens\u00e3o da UFSM, do Reitor da UFSM, do presidente do Cons\u00f3rcio para o Desenvolvimento Sustent\u00e1vel da Quarta Col\u00f4nia (CONDESUS) e dos prefeitos dos munic\u00edpios que integram a regi\u00e3o. <\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">O Reitor da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), Paulo Afonso Burmann, destacou que a assinatura da Carta de Inten\u00e7\u00f5es mostra o trabalho de inser\u00e7\u00e3o e de fortalecimento de la\u00e7os com a sociedade que a Institui\u00e7\u00e3o vem promovendo. Burmann tamb\u00e9m lembrou os importantes avan\u00e7os obtidos, em um curto per\u00edodo de tempo, pelos projetos Geoparques, o que sinaliza um trabalho intenso de todos os envolvidos. O Reitor da UFSM finalizou lembrando o apoio dos gestores locais para que a regi\u00e3o seja certificada como um Geoparque da UNESCO, que vem contribuindo n\u00e3o apenas para o desenvolvimento regional, como tamb\u00e9m para a constru\u00e7\u00e3o de novas perspectivas para a Quarta Col\u00f4nia.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Para o prefeito de Nova Palma (RS) e presidente do CONDESUS, Andr\u00e9 Luiz Rossato, o projeto Geoparque \u00e9 a oportunidade que a regi\u00e3o tem de entrar na rota do turismo mundial. Rossato tamb\u00e9m lembrou do trabalho desenvolvido, pelo Cons\u00f3rcio junto ao Governo Federal, para que o projeto se concretizasse nos munic\u00edpios da regi\u00e3o. <\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">A coordenadora institucional do projeto Geoparques na UFSM, Jaciele Carine Sell, ressaltou a import\u00e2ncia da Carta de Inten\u00e7\u00f5es para que a regi\u00e3o receba o Selo de Geoparques da UNESCO. Se a carta for aceita pela institui\u00e7\u00e3o, a regi\u00e3o passa a ser denominada de Geoparque Aspirante UNESCO, e n\u00e3o mais projeto Geoparque. Apesar de parecer algo simples, Jaciele lembra que esse processo \u00e9 uma forma de dar visibilidade ao projeto e ao trabalho desenvolvido pela UFSM, al\u00e9m de trazer os olhares internacionais para o territ\u00f3rio. <\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Atualmente, no pa\u00eds, h\u00e1 somente um territ\u00f3rio certificado pela UNESCO. Na UFSM, existem dois projetos sendo conduzidos em parceria com organiza\u00e7\u00f5es locais <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #4d5156\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">\u2014<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> um na regi\u00e3o da Quarta Col\u00f4nia e um na cidade de Ca\u00e7apava do Sul. Ap\u00f3s a assinatura da Carta, desenvolvida por docentes da UFSM e por membros do comit\u00ea gestor do projeto Geoparque, uma vers\u00e3o em portugu\u00eas e uma em ingl\u00eas do documento ser\u00e1 enviada ao Itamaraty, para seguir os tr\u00e2mites legais at\u00e9 chegar \u00e0 UNESCO. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">O territ\u00f3rio da Quarta Col\u00f4nia \u00e9 composto por nove munic\u00edpios ga\u00fachos: Agudo, Dona Francisca, Faxinal do Soturno, Ivor\u00e1, Nova Palma, Pinhal Grande, Restinga S\u00eaca, S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o do Pol\u00easine e Silveira Martins.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif\"><span
