Diversas pesquisas evidenciaram que a vitamina C \u00e9 um ator crucial em v\u00e1rios aspectos do sistema imunol\u00f3gico, e sua defici\u00eancia resulta em imunidade prejudicada e maior suscetibilidade a infec\u00e7\u00f5es. Por sua vez, as infec\u00e7\u00f5es afetam significativamente os n\u00edveis de vitamina C devido ao aumento da inflama\u00e7\u00e3o e das necessidades metab\u00f3licas. <\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;text-indent: 36.0pt;line-height: 150%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 150%;font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif\">Estudos indicam que a vitamina C pode ter um papel preventivo e terap\u00eautico em v\u00e1rias condi\u00e7\u00f5es de sa\u00fade. Entre elas, o <span style=\"color: #212121;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-repeat: initial;background-attachment: initial\">&#8216;resfriado comum&#8217;, termo que n\u00e3o denota uma doen\u00e7a definida com precis\u00e3o, na qual os sintomas e a dura\u00e7\u00e3o da doen\u00e7a variam de pessoa para pessoa. Os sintomas t\u00edpicos do resfriado incluem combina\u00e7\u00f5es de secre\u00e7\u00e3o e obstru\u00e7\u00e3o nasal, dor de garganta e tosse, mas tamb\u00e9m podem causar sintomas mais graves. O resfriado comum \u00e9 uma das doen\u00e7as mais prevalentes na atualidade. Acredita-se, geralmente, que o consumo de vitamina C previne seu aparecimento, mas a efic\u00e1cia real dessa medida \u00e9 controversa. Uma revis\u00e3o sistem\u00e1tica que analisou 45 estudos, concluiu que<\/span><span style=\"color: #212121\"> o consumo de vitamina C n\u00e3o previne o aparecimento do resfriado comum. De um modo geral, os dados n\u00e3o mostram nenhum benef\u00edcio da suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o cr\u00f4nica, ou seja, realizada a longo prazo, entretanto, pode ser pr\u00e1tico iniciar a suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o de vitamina C a curto prazo dentro de 24 horas ap\u00f3s o in\u00edcio dos sintomas.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;text-indent: 36.0pt;line-height: 150%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 150%;font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif\">\u00a0Outra revis\u00e3o investigou se o uso da vitamina C pode reduzir a incid\u00eancia, dura\u00e7\u00e3o ou gravidade do resfriado comum, seja atrav\u00e9s de suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o di\u00e1ria cont\u00ednua ou como tratamento iniciado no come\u00e7o dos sintomas<span style=\"color: #212121;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-repeat: initial;background-attachment: initial\">. <\/span>Os resultados indicaram que a suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o di\u00e1ria de vitamina C n\u00e3o diminui a frequ\u00eancia de resfriados na popula\u00e7\u00e3o em geral, sugerindo que seu uso habitual n\u00e3o \u00e9 justificado. Embora estudos com suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o regular tenham demonstrado uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o na dura\u00e7\u00e3o dos resfriados, esses achados n\u00e3o foram confirmados nos poucos ensaios terap\u00eauticos conduzidos at\u00e9 o momento.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;text-indent: 36.0pt;line-height: 150%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;line-height: 150%;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;color: #212121;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-repeat: initial;background-attachment: initial\">A vitamina C tem v\u00e1rios efeitos no sistema imunol\u00f3gico e o resfriado comum pode alterar seu metabolismo, de modo que os n\u00edveis dessa vitamina diminuam temporariamente no sangue e na urina. Assim, \u00e9 plaus\u00edvel que a administra\u00e7\u00e3o de vitamina C possa ter um efeito sobre a patog\u00eanese do resfriado comum.<\/span> O efeito do uso cr\u00f4nico de \u2265 1 g \/ dia de vitamina C indica uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o altamente significativa de 15% na gravidade do resfriado comum<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;line-height: 150%;font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;color: #212121;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-repeat: initial;background-attachment: initial\">. No entanto, se a vitamina C alivia os sintomas do resfriado, parece impratic\u00e1vel tomar 1 g \/ dia de vitamina C regularmente durante muitos meses para aliviar os sintomas de resfriados que geralmente s\u00e3o pouco frequentes. <\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;text-indent: 36.0pt;line-height: 150%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 150%;font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif\">Logo, a inefic\u00e1cia da suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o de vitamina C em reduzir a incid\u00eancia de resfriados na popula\u00e7\u00e3o em geral sugere que seu uso di\u00e1rio n\u00e3o \u00e9 justific\u00e1vel. No entanto, considerando seu efeito consistente na diminui\u00e7\u00e3o da dura\u00e7\u00e3o e gravidade dos resfriados em estudos de suplementa\u00e7\u00e3o cont\u00ednua, al\u00e9m de seu baixo custo e seguran\u00e7a, pode ser v\u00e1lido que indiv\u00edduos com resfriado comum experimentem o uso terap\u00eautico da vitamina C para avaliar poss\u00edveis benef\u00edcios pessoais.
