Lan\u00e7ado em 1992, o Programa de C\u00e1tedras UNITWIN \/ UNESCO promove a coopera\u00e7\u00e3o e partilha interuniversit\u00e1ria internacional, a fim de refor\u00e7ar as capacidades institucionais atrav\u00e9s da partilha do conhecimento e do trabalho em colabora\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>

O Programa apoia a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de C\u00e1tedras UNESCO e de redes UNITWIN em \u00e1reas priorit\u00e1rias estabelecidas no \u00e2mbito das compet\u00eancias da UNESCO, ou seja, educa\u00e7\u00e3o, ci\u00eancias naturais e sociais, cultura e comunica\u00e7\u00e3o.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Atrav\u00e9s desta rede, institui\u00e7\u00f5es de ensino superior e de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o em todo o mundo canalizam os seus recursos, tanto humanos como materiais, para enfrentar desafios prementes e contribuir para o desenvolvimento das suas sociedades.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Frequentemente, as Redes e C\u00e1tedras servem como grupos de reflex\u00e3o e como construtores de pontes entre o mundo acad\u00e9mico, a sociedade civil, as comunidades locais, a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e a defini\u00e7\u00e3o de pol\u00edticas. Ao mesmo tempo que promovem a diversidade cultural, provaram ser \u00fateis para influenciar decis\u00f5es pol\u00edticas, introduzir novas ideias no ensino, originar inova\u00e7\u00e3o atrav\u00e9s da investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e contribuir para o enriquecimento dos programas universit\u00e1rios existentes.
