Welcome to the III Symposium on Trace Analysis and Chemical Processes (III TACP). Since its first edition in 2022, the symposium has brought leading international researchers in analytical chemistry, food science and process intensification to the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM).

The first edition, held in October 2022 under the name “International Workshop on Trace Analysis” hosted 113 participants. We were honoured to welcome distinguished speakers such as Dr. Ewa Bulska (University of Warsaw, Poland), Dr. Jiří Dědina and Dr. Jan Kratzer (Czech Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic), and Dr. Ralph E. Sturgeon (National Research Council, Canada), who presented on the recent advances in several fields of knowledge.

In December 2023, the second edition continued this tradition, with over 90 participants, featuring renowned researchers including Dr. Björn Meermann (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, Germany), Dr. Ewa Bulska (University of Warsaw, Poland), Dr. Heidi Goenaga-Infante (LGC Limited, United Kingdom), Dr. Jiří Dědina and Dr. Jan Kratzer (Czech Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic), and Dr. Josef Kaiser (Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic).

Now in its third edition, the event has been renamed the III Symposium on Trace Analysis and Chemical Processes – III TACP. This change reflects our multidiciplinar scope, which continues to focus on innovative trends in trace analysis while also embracing the crucial field of process intensification in chemistry, food science, and chemical engineering. This year, we are delighted to host an exceptional group of speakers, including Dr. Ana Rita C. Morais (University of Kansas, USA), Fernanda Dias (University of Minnesota, USA), Dr. Heidi Goenaga-Infante (LGC Limited, United Kingdom), Dr. Frank Vanhaecke (Ghent University, Belgium), Dr. Martín Resano (University of Zaragoza, Spain), and Dr. Johanna Irrgeher and Dr. Thomas Prohaska (Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria).

Our goal for this symposium is to bring together the scientific communities of chemistry, food technology, and chemical engineering and related fields. The III TACP is supported by the Postgraduate Programs in Chemistry (PPGQ), Chemical Engineering (PPGEQ) and Food Science and Technology (PPGCTA) of the Federal University of Santa Maria and also by researchers from the Franciscan University (UFN, Brazil), Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel, Brazil) and Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR, Brazil).

Over three days, we aim to create a collaborative atmosphere where experts can interact, share insights, and reinforce the vital connections between these fields. On behalf of the entire Organizing Committee, we extend our warmest welcome to each participant. We look forward to seeing new connections forged between researchers and students and to strengthening old partnerships.

Thank you for being a part of the III TACP.
