The term accessibility means including people with disabilities in the participation of activities such as the use of products, services, and information.
Some examples are buildings with wheelchair access ramps and adapted restrooms for people with disabilities.

On the internet, accessibility mainly refers to the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) recommendations from the W3C and, in the case of the Brazilian Government, to e-MAG
(Electronic Government Accessibility Model).
e-MAG is aligned with international recommendations, but establishes accessible behavior standards for government websites.
At the top of the UFSM website there is an accessibility bar where standardized navigation shortcuts and the option to change contrast are available.

The Brazilian federal government shortcut standards are:
By pressing Alt + 1 on any page of the portal, users go directly to the beginning of the main content of the page.
By pressing Alt + 2 on any page of the portal, users go directly to the beginning of the main menu.
By pressing Alt + 3 on any page of the portal, users go directly to the internal search.
In Firefox, instead of Alt + number, press Alt + Shift + number simultaneously.
In Firefox on Mac OS, instead of Alt + Shift + number, press Ctrl + Alt + number simultaneously.
In Opera, the keys are Shift + Escape + number. By pressing only Shift + Escape, the user will find a window with all ACCESSKEY alternatives available on the page.
